Kagane is a reading platform built around two principles: preserve content at its highest quality, and provide a site you'd want to use.
Quality
Every image is stored exactly as sourced, no lossy re-encoding, no quality loss. Archives retain original fidelity, and we're prepared to serve them as is when formats like JPEG XL get proper support later this year. Till then, we will continue serving mostly JPEGs (Source / Q=100), WebP and AVIF files depending on the source image.
Origin
We started as a private archive. After some time, we opened it up and built a proper platform around it. Following the closure of several major sites, we expanded to accept community uploads alongside our internal releases.
